Two NASA crawler-transporters are nicknamed Hans and Franz. The characters have endured into the 21st century, with references to the sketch popping up in the likes of Sesame Street and World of Warcraft. They also popped up in a Behind the Music parody near the end of the decade. When Carvey left SNL in 1993, the bodybuilder characters were retired, though they reemerged during a "Weekend Update" stopover when Carvey returned to host in 1994, poking fun at the show's other recurring characters.
